2018 has brought along with it some really mind-blowing television series. From sci fi to drama and fantasy, these television series cater to various segments of the audience. The following five are some of the best from the first quarter of 2018. We’re sure none of these will disappoint you.

5. The Alienist

Based on the best-selling psychological thriller, The Alienist, by the notable author, Caleb Carr, this web series is sure to blow your mind. The story is set in 1986 in New York, surrounded by the drastic economic classes and new-found technologies. The plot revolves around the continuous and similar murders of boy prostitutes in the city. Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, also known as the alienist, is a psychologist who makes it his mission to find out the murderer’s reasoning behind these gruesome acts. This mind-numbing series is definitely worth a watch.

4. The Rain

Released early this May, this Netflix Original is a coming of age drama fused with sci fi and fantasy making it the best of both worlds. A group of young individuals get a chance to live a post apocalyptic life sans the baggage of their previous lives and society’s norms. They have found an unnamed freedom in this bizarre world of no rules. But will this freedom mean they are free from human emotions of love, jealousy, hatred and the confusion of growing up? The novelty of this concept has attracted a large audience to this amazing series.

3. The Terror

Since its premiere in March, 2018 on AMC, this new series has gained a huge fan following due to its brilliant plot. Inspired by a true story, the series revolves around the Royal Navy’s quest to discover the Northwest Passage. Fighting against all odds and trying their best to beat the cold and isolation, closely escaping extinction, the crew desperately tries to survive. A gripping story, you’ll find it hard to take a break while watching this one.

2. Lost In Space

Since its premier in early April this year, Lost In Space has become popular due to its startling plot and amazing cinematography. The creators of Lost In Space have reimagined the 1960s hit series by the same name with a modern and futuristic approach. The story is set 30 years in the future where the dreaded colonization of space is now a gripping reality. The Robinson family, selected among the few to make this world their own are stuck in the midst of the chaos caused by the colonists. Lost In Space now seems like a future prediction than just someone’s fantasy.

1. Altered Carbon

Based on its namesake novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is a futuristic sci-fi, fantasy venture by Netflix. The story revolves around Takeshi Kovacs’s second chance at life after his frozen, preserved brain is revived by Laurens Bancroft, a powerful, rich man in exchange for a grave favour, solving his own murder case. This bone chilling story has been brought to life by creator, LaetaKalogridis. Altered Carbon gained a lot of popularity really quickly due to its brilliant story and excellent cast.
