Hungama steps into original programming, will launch four shows
After focusing on online music and short-film video content for almost a decade, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd has finally joined the original web programming universe.
Hungama is all set to launch its first ever full-fledged web series, Damaged. The series will be starring Amruta Khanvilkar and Amit Sail. The series will start streaming on June 6. The series will be followed by two dramas and one comedy. Each season will have 10 to 15 episodes and each episode will be of 22 to25 minutes each.
Neeraj Roy, the managing director of Hungama Digital Media said that since they are a digital platform, they had to enter into the making of original content to make a differentiation between them and others, and to give the audience a unique reason to visit their platform and look for more content.
Hungama’s partnership with Vodafone and Idea will allow the dissemination of the content much faster. This will also improve the quality of story-telling on the digital platform. Hungama has joined the original content bandwagon when the market is already filled with original content creators. According to Ficci-EY and the entertainment report 2107, there are currently 30 video OTT platforms in India.
Roy also said that the next aim for Hungama is to focus on more vernacular stories. The first four original shows would be in Hindi and English. For the time being, the viewers will be able to follow some of the stories with the help of subtitles on the platform.
