The streaming giant Netflix is teaming up with Viacom18’s digital content production arm, Tipping Point, to produce three new original web series for Netflix in India. This announcement comes just days after Netflix’s CEO, Reed Hastings, announced a ₹3000 crore investment into content production and acquisition for Netflix India.
The three originals that will emerge out of Viacom18 and Netflix’s collaboration will spread across genres ranging from romance to drama to thriller, and are titled – Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega, She, and Taj Mahal 1989.
Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega will explore the conflict that arise after a small town, Jamtara, in the state of Jharkhand, is identified as India’s phishing capital. The show was previously announced as one of the 17 new originals slated for Viacom18’s streaming platform, Voot, but it seems that the series is now moving to Netflix.
On the other hand, She will be a gritty and courageous story of an undercover cop’s journey as she discovers her sexuality and breaks stereotypes, while bringing down a drug cartel. Lastly, Taj Mahal 1989 will be a nostalgic saga that explores love and longing set against the eponymous monument in Agra that has come to symbolise enduring love.
According to sources, Jamtara is directed by Soumendra Padhi, and will feature a talented cast, including names like Amit Sial, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Aksha Pardasany, Sparsh Shrivastav, Monika Panwar, and Sarfaraz Ali Mirza, among several others.
