Aneesh, Rabbi and Shiv have a secret club, The Insiders, a product of being thrust together in a room every Saturday, while their parents have a drink and catch up. It’s going all smooth, when one day a new member joins their craziness, a girl, Shravya. The 4 members embark on an adventurous, whacky journey every Saturday, for a few hours, wading through love, friendship and stupidity, together.

Yay!

  • The Insiders is The Viral Fever’s (TVF) boldest web series till date. It doesn’t fit into any refined, definite category; it’s in its own league, a standalone piece, without any precedent in Indian Web Entertainment. TVF is known for creating youth-oriented content that is unique and refreshing, providing a different, never-before-seen point of view. With The Insiders it raises the bar quite high.
  • The plotline is simple- 4 friends who are forced to stay in while their parents have drinks and their adult conversations. The concept is quite relatable and similar, but the way it’s executed is what makes it different. The millennial teenagers, The Insiders, have weirdly crazy experiences, heightening the smallest events to an exaggerated, dramatic level.
  • What is admirable is that there’s rarely any sequence that is not blown out of proportion, but it never feels redundant or boring; because behind all the hyperbole lies a tiny touch of reality that makes the show entertaining and engaging. In fact, the crazy, nonsensical, absurd events will make you laugh out loud.
  • The four leads, Omkar, Ritvik, Arnav and Himika, have done an excellent job at portraying their characters. The crazy quotient of the series is made approachable by their steady performances, balancing the hyperactive storyline. Apart from them, Brij Bhushan Shukla deserves a special mention for his lively performance as Bhalla, Rabbi’s father, cracking you up with his ‘Dad jokes’.
  • The Insiders is an artistic piece that speaks loudly between the lines. Behind all the crazy, it takes a dig at various pop culture references, Indian media, parenting, and the overall perception of the older generation towards the millennials.
  • A little note: stay for the post-credits. The tiny snippets after the end credits will leave you with a smile on your face.

Nay!

  • Nothing.

Bottom Line:

The Insiders is a piece of work that is equally entertaining and enlightening, portrayed in the most bizarre fashion.

Trivia:

  • The Insiders is the second show of TVF with MX Player, the first one being the widely acclaimed series, ImMature, which also featured Omkar Kulkarni and Himika Bose.
  • The Insiders marks Ritvik Joshi and Arnav Bhasin’s debut in the world of web series; they have previously worked on digital in various short films.
